2017 Composition Competition

The Music Education Expo Composition Competition returns! 

Applications for the 2017 Expo Composition Competition will open in September. Please check our website in September for details on how your students can enter.


  • Work premiered on The Expo Stage at lunchtime on day one of Music Education Expo (Thursday 9 February 2017) by a talented youth ensemble
  • Work printed in the April edition of Music Teacher magazine
  • Prize presented by a special guest TBC
  • Plus further prizes to be confirmed! 

Rules & guidelines

  • Submission: postal and electronic (PDF or scans) accepted, handwritten or notation software submissions accepted
  • Age limit: 18yrs and under
  • Duration: maximum 2 minutes

2016 competition

Nicole receives prize

Our 2016 competition was won by Nicole Brocksom for her SAT original setting of Christina Rosettii's poem 'In The Silence'. Nicole was presented with a copy of Cubase 8.5 by Julian Lloyd-Webber live on stage, and her piece was premiered on day 1 of the Expo by an affiliate youth choir of Birmingham Conservatoire.
